Beans Curry Recipe

INGREDIENTS 2 cups beans chopped 1 handful moong dal ½ tsp ginger, crushed 1/3 cup tomato 1 sprig coriander leaves, chopped 1/8 tsp Catch turmeric powder Catch salt, as required ½ - ¾ tsp Catch red chili powder 1 sprig curry leaves ½ tsp jeera 1 pinch Catch hing/asafoetida 1 pinch mustard seeds Oil, as required Accompaniments with Beans Curry:

  • Chapati
  • Steamed Rice
  • Naan


  1. Wash and soak moong dal in enough water for at least 30 minutes. Make sure it is soaked thoroughly.
  1. Add water to a pressure cooker, add chopped beans to a bowl without adding any water. Place this bowl in the pressure cooker and cook for 2 whistles.
  1. Heat a pan with oil, add mustard seeds, jeera and curry leaves. Let them splutter, then add Catch hing and ginger and sauté.
  1. Add tomatoes, Catch salt and Catch turmeric powder. Fry the tomatoes till they turn mushy. After that cook for another 2 minutes.
  1. Add the dal, beans, Catch red chili powder and Catch salt, as required.
  1. Mix well and fry for 2-3 minutes. If there is any stock left after cooking beans, just pour it and increase the flame to evaporate that water.
  1. Close the lid and cook for 2-3 minutes till the beans turn tender and blend well with the tomato and Catch red chili powder. Make sure the dal is fully cooked.
  1. Add coriander leaves for garnishing and serve hot.
Recipe Notes/Suggestions:
  • Alter the seasoning as per your taste.
  • You can avoid adding the ginger, if you want to cook it without ginger.
